About OCRCC

Oak Creek Relational Counseling (OCRCC) is an affordable, community-based provider of psychotherapy and counseling for individuals, couples, families, children and groups. Our office is in Pleasant Hill, located conveniently near mass-transit and/or with parking. Our therapists see clients every day of the week during the day and evenings.

The mission of OCRCC is to provide effective and affordable community counseling services and advanced training for therapy providers and interns. We are committed to excellence in the administration of the Center, the services we provide, and our trainings.

Oak Creek Relational Counseling Center is a 501 (c)(3) charitable corporation.

Who We Are

Therapeutic counseling is provided by registered marriage and family therapy interns and professional clinical counselor interns who are participating in OCRCC's clinical training program. Our therapist associates have already completed their masters degrees in counseling psychology and have hundreds of hours of experience counseling clients with a variety of interpersonal and personal issues. Our trainees are currently enrolled in a qualified Masters of Counseling program. As a part of the OCRCC clinical training program, we provide our therapists with on-going training, supervision and consultation.

In 1993, Stephen Polin founded Oak Creek counseling as a non-profit organization to provide counseling services to the residents of East Bay and advanced training for counseling interns . Since then, we have had counseling offices in various cities across the East Bay and San Francisco to meet the mental health needs of our communities. Our interns have provided thousands of hours of affordable counseling to enhance the mental health and well-being of the residents of our communities. After completing their training at Oak Creek and completing the California licensing exam, our therapist interns have received their California MFT or LPCC licenses and have established their own psychotherapy practices in the Bay Area and beyond.  In early 2015, the organization was restructured to Oak Creek Relational Counseling Center.

Supervising Director

Picture
Steve Polin continues to serve as OCRCC's clinical supervision director. He has over 30 years of experience practicing as a licensed marriage and family therapist and has provided therapy to clients in the prison, hospital and psychiatric emergency settings. In addition to his practice, he is a clinical supervisor and a teacher. He was the supervisor at the Marin County Crisis Unit for seven years and provided psychiatric evaluations for the Marin County Jail.  He is currently a clinical supervisor at Options Recovery Services.

Steve has been a member of the adjunct faculty in the College of Graduate and Professional Studies at John F Kennedy University since 1985, where he teaches masters level counseling psychology courses , including theories of MFT practice,  the psychology of men, psychopathology, psychopharmacology,  clinical interviewing skills, and crisis intervention techniques, to name a few. He previously taught at the Wright Institute. He also instructs therapist interns in post-graduate training programs, such as The Psychotherapy Institute. In addition to students in masters and post-graduate training programs, Steve teaches courses to inmates at San Quentin , Solano  Valley, and Central California Women's Prisons, who are working to obtain their certification for the treatment of chemical dependency.

Our therapists place a high value on the dignity and worth of all people. We embrace the richness brought by identities and expressions at the intersections of ethnicity, race, nationality, sexual/affectional orientation, gender, size, age, physical and mental abilities, religion/spirituality, socioeconomic status, and immigration status. We also recognize the immense impact that systemic racism and oppression have on mental health and well-being. In this spirit, we strive to foster cultural humility through ongoing training and professional development.
