Welcome Megan Murphy, MFT Trainee, to Oak Creek

8/14/2026

Picture

We're glad to introduce Megan Murphy, a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee who has joined the clinical team at Oak Creek Relational Counseling Center.

Megan is a graduate student at Saint Mary's College of California, where she also earned her B.S. in Psychology in 2023.

She sees clients in person at our Pleasant Hill office and via telehealth anywhere in California, working with children, adolescents, and adults.

What brought her to this work

Megan came to the mental health field with a straightforward conviction: everyone deserves a space where they feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported.

"My hope is to create a warm and welcoming environment where you can be yourself, talk openly about what you're going through, and feel comfortable being honest without fear of judgment."

That emphasis on honesty without judgment shows up throughout her work — particularly with clients who arrive feeling stuck, unsure of what comes next, or unable to name exactly what's wrong.

How she works

Megan's approach is grounded in person-centered therapy, with an interest in incorporating postmodern and other humanistic approaches. The premise is a simple one that's harder to practice than it sounds: you are the expert on your own life.

Rather than positioning herself as the person with the answers, Megan walks alongside her clients with curiosity, compassion, and respect — helping them recognize their own strengths, gain new perspectives, and work toward the changes that actually matter to them.

She describes therapy as a place to slow down. For someone in the middle of a hard transition or a period of persistent anxiety, that alone can be the intervention.

Who she works with

Megan sees children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating:
  • Anxiety and overthinking
  • Boundaries and people-pleasing
  • Depression and low mood
  • Life transitions
  • Relationship challenges
  • Stress and feeling stuck
  • Personal growth and self-understanding

You don't need a specific problem to bring. As Megan puts it, therapy is equally a place for people who "simply want to better understand yourself."

A note on training and supervision

Oak Creek is a training institution. Megan is a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee completing her master's degree, and she practices under the supervision of Stephen Polin, LMFT #7861.

Working with a trainee means working with a clinician who brings current training, close supervisory oversight, and — in most cases — greater scheduling availability and lower sliding-scale rates than a fully licensed provider. It's one of the ways we keep quality care accessible in the East Bay.

Getting in touch

Megan is currently accepting new clients for both in-person sessions in Pleasant Hill and telehealth sessions throughout California.
