Jacqueline Cooper, (She/Her)
"I always meet the client where they are at. Specifically for client's with substance use disorder, I use motivational interviewing to assess for readiness to change. I will never push you, but I will challenge you because that's where the growing edge sits. I offer support with abstinence and an understanding of harm reduction. This is your therapy, I am here to facilitate goals and ease suffering." My ideal client takes many different forms but they are all individualized. My client is suffering and I see it as my role to reduce human suffering so that it is no longer unbearable. I provide both short term (goal oriented), and long term (perhaps, more Existential and Gestalt based) therapy. I'm not going to change your personality, why would I? That makes you the unique individual that you are. However, my goal is to adjust and provide strategies for harmful behaviors that cause suffering and an inability to live in peace with others.
I am a relational therapist and have experience working with trauma, depression, anxiety, substance misuse and personality disorders. I believe in harm reduction as an end in itself and also as a roadmap to abstinence. Using a variety of therapeutic techniques my goal is to alleviate suffering and build the most authentic version of self for the client. Therapy helps! It wont be easy, it will often be a bumpy road to a more peaceful and intuitive life. But I will be there with you for every step of your way.
